interested in the way the human form has been the way in which an artist can manipulate the viewing of a figure; specifically in regards to the female figure, how contemporary artists subvert the traditional representation of women’s bodies established overarchingly by previous male artists – forcing new and strange perceptions of the female figure that challenge the viewer’s expectation.
Although I explored positioning to enhance an uncomfortable, unexpected viewing of the female nude, the fundamental aim of my investigation was not to challenge sexualisation of the female body explicitly, but to de-sexualise the female figure (as Saville has done) to the point where it is viewed purely as a form – to which I can document to develop and play with different techniques and materials.
